Hudiksvall Municipality uses Opacus for importing user data into Google Apps from Novell eDirectory
Swedish municipality Hudiksvall has just started the initial phase of implementing Google Apps for pupils in K12-schools. By using Opacus from Nordic Edge, Hudiksvall can simplify and automate the administration of users in Google Apps.
When Swedish municipality Hudiksvall chose to use Google Apps, they faced the challenge of how to avoid double administration of user accounts and how to synchronise data in an efficient way.
Administration of user accounts is performed in Novell eDirectory and the challenge was to automatically migrate and synchronise accounts from the local environment into Google Apps. Hudiksvall needed a solution that could simplify the administration and migrate user data from the local directory to Google Apps.
With Opacus, Hudiksvall can perform mass-population of user accounts in Google Apps from the local eDirectory in order to get the system up and running quickly. Furthermore Opacus integrates Hudiksvalls local user store with Google Apps and gives the organisation central administration of users. The provisioning component in Opacus means that when a user account is created in Hudiksvalls eDirectory, the user account is also created at Google Apps. Inversely, when the account is deleted in the local user store, it is also deleted or disabled in Google Apps.
With Opacus it’s possible to delegate the user administration to different administrators based on many different attributes: for instance group, role or title. It is possible to introduce workflow processes where certain actions will require approval before taking effect. This allows Hudiksvall to delegate user account responsibility to teachers, for example.
Thanks to Opacus, Hudiksvall Municipality can avoid double administration of user accounts, saving time and money. The solution also simplifies the administration and makes it more flexible through delegated user administration where user account responsibilities are delegated to the appropriate teacher.
“Google Apps offers solutions that suit our organisation perfectly and Opacus from Nordic Edge makes it extremely efficient and cost effective to use. Opacus enables seamless integration between Google Apps and the local environment, using existing infrastructure without the need for any new investments”,
